This 2008 Dodge Avenger, Nextel Cup, was a backup car for Kasey Kahne. It was built to race and qualify as an official car. It has a NSCA (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) sticker above the windshield stating “Talladega 27 April 2008”. A group of Dodge dealers invested in it for advertising purposes. The plan was that when Kasey Kahne needed it, due to wrecks on the track or other reasons, Evernham Motorsports would buy it from the dealers and use it for low cost advertising. It was never needed and became untraceable due to NASCAR specification changes in 2011. At that time it was sold to Fast Lane Cars and then to Riley Reinke and Robert Reinke.
Kasey Kahne from Enumclaw, Washington, had a 15 year career in NASCAR beginning in 2003 at age 23 until he retired in 2018. Kahne was honored as Rookie of the Year in 2004 and won nine times, driving Dodges for Ray Evernham. In 2009 Kahne was added to NASCAR’s list of 75 Greatest Drivers.
The Nextel Cup Series debuted Chrysler Group’s all new Dodge Avenger. It first raced at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee and later at fifteen other racing events.
The Dodge Avenger was a mid-sized sedan with bold Dodge styling and innovative interior features. It had high-levels of safety and reliability, exhilarating performance and excellent fuel efficiency. It joined the Charger in the Dodge racing family and made its debut on March 25, 2007 as the Dodge entry in NASCAR’s “Car of Tomorrow” implementation. This was a collaborative effort by the sanctioning body, manufacturers, teams, and industry suppliers to develop a safer, less expensive race car using a more common design.
