The Galaxie was redesigned for 1965 with the most angular styling ever used on a Ford. It emphasized stacked headlights in rectangular frames. The sturdier chassis came from Ford’s NASCAR racing experience and included a stronger front and rear suspensions.
The Galaxie 500 was Ford’s intermediate trim level and included sedan, hardtop, and convertible models. It included all of the custom trim plus a chrome hood ornament, chrome window frames, “Galaxie 500” in block letters, chrome rocker panel trim, and hexagonal taillights. A Ford crest was on the roof pillar.
Two other Galaxie 500 models were also available. The 500XL had sport trim, bucket seats, and a floor-mounted shift lever. The top trim level was the 500 LTD.
