1932 Ford Coupe “Mighty Mouse”
On loan from: Alton Jackson of Hastings, NE.
This car won many races and one of the several trophies is on display.
John Davisson was the owner of the famed “Mighty Mouse” driven by Cliff Sealock and Wilber Hecke to hundreds of wins across the Midwest. A perfectionist from the get-go, Davisson’s cars rarely broke down. He was inducted into the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2003.
Wilber “Willie” Hecke lived in Central Nebraska throughout his driving years beginning in the early 1950s. He campaigned a number of cars including the “Mighty Mouse” for John Davisson. Willie won over 20 track championships, including five consecutively at Kearney and Hastings from 1967 through 1971. He raced in many special events over a four-state area.
Hecke suffered a fatal heart attack in the seat of a race car while waiting for the start of a race on August 14, 1985. He was inducted into the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1998.
Starting out as a driver in the early 1950s, Homer Macklin found his niche as the mechanic of the famed “Mighty Mouse” stock car team. With drivers such as Cliff Sealock and Willie Hecke, the team ran wild for two decades.
In 1972, Macklin and Hecke teamed up with the “Go Big Red” sprint car and continued to dominate for several years.
